For Middle School Families

Algebra Success Starts BEFORE Algebra Begins

The skills students need for Algebra are often rushed through in middle school.
This short Jumpstart fills those gaps early — before grades, confidence, and course options are affected.

Math builds every single day. Strengthening foundations now prevents gaps from compounding later.

Who Is This Jumpstart Designed For?

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO WANT TO FEEL CONFIDENT HEADING INTO ALGEBRA

HONORS OR ADVANCED-TRACK STUDENTS WHO WANT A STRONGER FOUNDATION

STUDENTS WHO WANT ALGEBRA TO FEEL CLEAR - NOT RUSHED OR CONFUSING

STUDENTS WHO WANT LONG TERM SUCCESS IN MATH AND SCIENCE COURSES

This Jumpstart is not remedial — it’s designed to strengthen foundations while students are still moving forward, not after gaps appear.

WHAT CHANGES FOR YOUR CHILD AFTER THIS JUMPSTART

When students understand the reasoning behind equations, they’re able to keep up as new material builds — instead of working twice as hard later to catch up.

A VETERAN MATH TEACHER'S APPROACH TO PREPARING STUDENTS FOR ALGEBRA

I’ve spent over 20 years teaching math and helping students build strong foundations that support long-term success.

I created this Jumpstart after seeing the same pattern repeat year after year: capable, hardworking students struggle later — not because they aren’t good at math, but because foundational equation skills were rushed or assumed.

This Jumpstart was designed to slow things down before Algebra begins, so students build real understanding and confidence that carries forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the most common questions from parents.

When is the Jumpstart?

Each session is a live, 90 minute online Jumpstart Session.
Available dates and times are listed above, and space is limited to keep instruction interactive and effective.

What is the format of this Jumpstart?

This is a live, instructor-led online session.
Students actively learn and practice new methods for solving equations, with time for questions and guided examples throughout.

What if my child is already getting all A's in Math?

Many students who attend this Jumpstart are already strong math students.
The focus is not on grades, but on depth — making sure students truly understand equation-solving before Algebra begins, rather than relying on shortcuts or memorization.
This helps high-achieving students feel confident and prepared as math becomes faster-paced and more abstract.

What will my child be able to do after the Jumpstart?

Because students learn the reasoning behind each step used to solve equations, they will be able to solve more complex equations (even the ones they've never seen before).
Parents often notice increased confidence, independence, and fewer surprises as students move into higher-level math and science courses.

What should students already know before the Jumpstart?

Students do not need prior experience with algebra to attend.

The only prerequisites are that students are comfortable with:

Adding

Subtracting

Multiplying

Dividing
Also, we only use whole numbers during the Jumpstart.

For the purposes of the Jumpstart, we intentionally leave out fractions, decimals, precents, and negative numbers. This allows students to focus fully on understanding how equations work — without rushing or feeling overwhelmed.

Because the Jumpstart is a focused, structured session, removing these additional layers helps students build strong algebraic thinking and master the properties involved in solving equations, rather than getting stuck on arithmetic details.

This approach ensures the time is spent on conceptual understanding, not speed or memorization.

Are the Jumpstart sessions recorded?

Yes. A recording will be available for students who attend the live session, so families can review key concepts afterward if needed.

That said, this Jumpstart is intentionally designed as a live, interactive experience. Students get the most value by participating in real time, asking questions, and working through the material with guidance.

The recording is provided as a supplement, not a replacement for live attendance.

Is any follow-up support provided after the Jumpstart?

Yes. After the Jumpstart, students receive a follow-up Reinforcement Guide.

This resource includes:

A clear, one-page summary of the key equation concepts taught in this Jumpstart

Carefully selected practice problems for continued learning

A separate answer key so students can check their work independently

This follow-up material is optional and meant to support students who want extra practice or a refresher after the live session.

Is this Jumpstart appropriate for students already in Algebra 1 or higher?

Yes — in many cases, it can be very helpful.

This Jumpstart focuses specifically on equation foundations, which appear throughout Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and beyond. Students who are already in Algebra 1 (or higher) often find that this session helps clarify concepts they were expected to move through quickly earlier on.

If you’re unsure whether it’s a good fit, I’m happy to help you decide.

How many students are typically in a Jumpstart session?

Class size varies depending on schedules and the time of year.

Rather than targeting a specific number, the Jumpstart is designed to work effectively regardless of group size. The structure, pacing, and organization of the session are what matter most — not the headcount.

Whether a session is smaller or larger, students receive the same carefully sequenced instruction and guided practice.

Are students required to use cameras and microphones during the Jumpstart?

No. Cameras and microphones are never required. But they are fun!

Students may participate by typing questions privately to the instructor, participating in written work, or speaking or turning cameras on only if they’re comfortable.

The goal is a focused, low-pressure learning environment — not performance.

Is this a full solution for algebra?

This Jumpstart teaches crucial and key concepts required to solve equations in a way that gives students an strong foundation allowing them to move easier into learning more advanced techniques.

For families looking for ongoing instruction and deeper mastery, various six week programs are available.

Want continued support after the Jumpstart?
EMAR (Equations Mastery for Algebra Readiness) is our 6-week small-group program, which meets

once per week on Tuesdays.
